Inspirations Trail

Public art makes a positive impact. In Livingston County, our buildings have space to inspire, our sidewalks are welcoming to all, and our history is meant to be shared. With the Livingston County Inspirations Trail, this project allows those realities to come true. The Livingston County Inspirations Trail will place 100+ pieces of permanent and temporary art throughout the Main Street corridors of the county’s nine villages, connected by a 90-mile loop.

The Inspirations Trail will drive visitors to the downtown districts of Livingston County through the use of public art. All the art installations will incorporate an uplifting or inspirational quote whether it’s one word or many. It’s a treasure hunt for art lovers and inspiration lovers. All nine downtowns in Livingston County will participate in an art walk designed to engage the public through both storefront and interactive public art. The inaugural event will feature storefront art on display from May 1st to May 24th, 2020. Interactive art pieces will include murals, sculptures, or benches that will remain as permanent art in the village. Pieces will be created by student groups ranging from elementary school to university as well as local and regional amateur and professional artists.

Each work of art will include uplifting or inspirational words or phrases designed to connect locals to the community’s past and encourage them to take ownership of the future. This concerted place-making effort will differentiate our downtowns and create a unique and enjoyable art-based experience for locals and visitors. The Trail will include permanent murals and sculptures as well as temporary installations displayed in downtown storefront windows.
